Special Edition: Threadcakes Journey 2

As soon as I saw this design, I knew that I wanted to do it for this year's Threadcakes contest! Having a plan was key, and I stayed mindful of proportions as I put it all together. I used a doctored butter pecan (pun intended) box mix, Swiss meringue buttercream from scratch, fondant, and gel color to paint accents onto this cake. Knowing when to paint on black as opposed to shaping black fondant for certain parts was very important. It took me about 7 hours with all the small details. I'm very pleased with the final result, and this cake tastes great too!

Special Edition: Threadcakes Journey 1

This is my first entry ever for the Threadcakes contest, and I'm very excited for the opportunity! The inspiration for my cake was the t-shirt design "Retro Camping", and I wanted to see if I could execute this design using a Swiss Meringue Buttercream transfer. I've tried this technique in the past with varying degrees of success. I used a chocolate box mix, but my SMBC and chocolate buttercream icings were from scratch. I baked the cake in an 8" round 3" deep pan, and cut it to the same shape as the design.
