3 Ways that Cake Artists can Give Back

Being a cake artist is very rewarding! I enjoy the gratification that comes with designing, planning, and executing a cake deign in a matter of a few days and seeing the look on someone's face when they finally see the finished product. I especially enjoy coaching my students as they learn new techniques or giving special tips during class.

What we do as cake artists is MAGICAL! Our patience and attention to detail makes our talent truly one-of-a-kind and a worthy skill to possess. If you are a cake artist who would like to use your talent for the benefit of the greater good, here are 3 ways that you can give back:

1. Volunteer with Icing Smiles

Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. Their website is an AMAZING resource! 2.Volunteer to teach cake decorating workshops for your county's 4-Hers

Children love to learn new things and you'll find many young learners participating in your local 4-H program. Many programs offer cake decorating as a "project", and I've found that the coordinators are always looking for adult volunteers to teach workshops. You're usually able to set a schedule based on your availability and will most likely receive some guidance on what techniques to teach. Finally, you'll be glad to know that you're helping the next generation of cake artists along their cake journey!

3. Mentor a Fellow Cake Artist

This is probably the easiest way to give back! If you have friend, family member, or work colleague who is interested in baking and cake decorating, offer advice and guidance to that person if they're receptive. Being a resource to other cake artists is INVALUABLE. We all learn from each others experiences and by sharing with others, we all sharpen our skills and widen our perspectives!

Please keep in mind that it doesn't really matter where you are on your cake journey. If you have the heart and the time, YOU can make a positive impact on the lives of others!
